picture the holidays: 06/every little thing

Today, I spent $62 at the post office.

Today, I spent at least four hours making small boxes out of corrugated cardboard, then packaging and wrapping a dozen boxes of cookies.

Today, bought $17 worth of stamps to mail out my Christmas cards.

Even at the most ordinary time of day, while doing the most mundane tasks, little moments of enchantment will reveal themselves. Find some small delight today.

Making boxes out of corrugated cardboard, then packaging and wrapping a what seemed like a hundred boxes of cookies got to be rather tedious after awhile.  And then I got a phone call with some potentially sad news about my childhood dog.  But that's another story.  I desperately needed to focus on the here and now.  The happy.  The holiday.

I printed pretty labels to affix to some of the boxes, and I found joy in that.  A simple thing for a mundane task of boxing and wrapping.

Outside was rainy and dreary, one of those dark kind of days that, even at 3 o'clock in the afternoon, lights need to be turned on inside the house.  After single-handedly keeping the post office in business (hah!  I mean really, $62 is a lot), I returned home to do some work.  I tried keeping my eye out for more small delights, but I didn't take pictures of them.  I just simply enjoyed.
